Hello! My name is Ms. Arenas, and I am the speech-language pathologist at Komensky School. I am very excited to be starting my fifth year here at Komensky! This year, my office is located in the back of Room 223 on the second floor.
I work to help students attain functional communication skills in their educational environments. Speech and language difficulties could arise in the areas of speech (articulation), language, voice, fluency, or pragmatic language (social language skills). If a student is having difficulties in any of these areas, I am available to screen and/or evaluate the student's speech-language skills. Teachers and parents are often my best referral sources, as they are the individuals who interact with the students on a daily basis.
When a student qualifies for speech-language services, I typically work with him or her on a weekly basis to help strengthen and reinforce typically-developing communication skills. Cooperation from parents, teachers, and other caregivers is often instrumental in achieving student success. I always try to help students become aware of their goals and teach them tricks or strategies for helping themselves become communicators, as well.
The staff at Komensky is very supportive in helping me set a workable schedule and allowing me time to work with their students. Teachers provide me with the students' academic progress and give me ideas about particular areas of struggle that I could target during therapy sessions. I also do my best to inform teachers of particular speech-language strategies that could be used in the classrooms to help students perform to the best of their ability.

Hola! Soy la Sra. Arenas, soy la patóloga del habla aquí en la Escuela Komensky. Estoy muy contenta pues este es mi quinto año en Komensky! Este año mi oficina se encuentra en el salón 223 del segundo piso.
Mi trabajo es ayudar a los estudiantes a obtener destrezas funcionales de comunicación en el ambiente educacional. Dificultades del habla pueden surgir en las aéreas del habla (articulación), voz, fluidez o lenguaje pragmático (destrezas de comunicación social). Si un estudiante está teniendo dificultades en cualquiera de estas aéreas, estoy disponible para evaluar las destrezas del habla. Maestros y padres de familia son, a menudo, las mejores fuentes de referencia, como ellos son las personas que mas contacto tienen con el estudiante diariamente.
Cuando el estudiante califica para los servicios de terapia del habla, típicamente trabajo con él o ella en la semana para ayudar a reforzar el desarrollo de destrezas comunicativas. Cooperación por parte de los padres, maestros y otros encargados es, a menudo, instrumental en el logro de éxito del estudiante. Trato siempre de ayudar a los estudiantes a estar conscientes de sus metas y les enseno estrategias para que se conviertan en buenos comunicadores también.
El personal de Komensky es muy consciente y me ayuda a desarrollar un horario que me permite trabajar con sus estudiantes. Los maestros me proveen el progreso académico de los estudiantes y me dan ideas acerca de áreas deficientes, en las cuales me puedo enfocar durante la sesión de terapia. Me aseguro de informar a los maestros acerca de estrategias particulares para la articulación del habla que podrían ser implementadas en el salón de clase, y así ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar lo mejor de sus habilidades.
